How to pose for your professional headshots!
As with many aspects of photography, the easiest way to explain posing is to just show you! So, here’s some examples of some easy poses that business professionals can model for their sessions.
The Standard: there is NOTHING wrong with using the standard headshot pose. It’s simply straightening your back, turn your chest 45 degrees from the camera, and lean slightly toward the camera. It’s classic for a reason. It’s works for any profession and any body type.

Arms Crossed: Want to convey a bit more charisma than the standard pose? Cross your arms to create a more powerful impression on the viewer. A slight or full smile can help balance out the crossed arms to create a strong, yet friendly impression. This pose is perfect for lawyers, corporate executives, and realtors.

The Lean-In: Leaning toward the camera while seated can be a great way to appear relaxed during your session. This pose is also perfect for clients who are hoping to slim face or body appearance. Also, it emphasizes to the viewer your focus and attentiveness.

Hand on your Hips: A bit more fun than the standard headshot, placing your hands on your hips gives the viewer the impression of you being hard at work.

Over the shoulder: An over-the-shoulder pose can look very candid. It creates the impression of a less posed or staged feel. This style is perfect for actors, models or business professionals who want a personality picture along with their business headshot.

The Lean: Similar to the over-the-shoulder pose, leaning against a wall creates a candid vibe for your headshot. Striking this pose can feel more relaxed but confident. A sense of calm.

Prop Play: Want to appear cool and collected? A couple shots with your favorite pair of glasses or cup of coffee can do wonders for appearing thoughtful in your portrait session. This is a great pose for designers, artists and thought-leaders. Why not incorporate something that shows your craft. These images scream branding and marketing use.

Candid: While difficult to get just right, a candid pose can be an awesome asset for business brand and personal branding projects with consultants, entrepreneurs and thought-leaders. The term “candid” means that the subject is not looking into the lens. plus their head could be turned “across” the camera. While this shouldn’t maybe be your main profile photo on LinkedIn, this is a great choice to use on a business website, social-media posts, and advertising campaigns.

Personality/Brand: These headshot poses are niche, but including crazy/fun poses into your session shows personality. Made a funny face, roll your eyes or look totally shocked. Showing different emotions or expressions may help your viewers understand a point you’re making. Personality images are perfect to also show a hobby or interest you have. This conveys the know, like, trust factor that’s important to show who your clients are doing business with. This may feel weird or out-of-the-box, but being authentic is showing the real you behind the business.
